Registered in 1995 as a charitable society, the Dzogchen Shri Senha Charitable Society includes in its aims and objectives the enhancement of living conditions of the Tibetan refugee community in general. The following passages are quoted from its official memorandum of association:

Kelsang-la, Rinpoche's wife, is one of the active forces behind the Dzogchen Shri Senha Charitable Society. She is shown here visiting one of the settlements older members, Mo Lhamo.

"To set up educational and social welfare institutions and centres, nursery schools, balwadis, crèches, reading rooms, libraries and handicrafts".

"To open, establish and maintain hospitals, charitable dispensaries, maternity homes, child welfare centres, clinical laboratories and other similar institutions or centres for rendering or providing medical relief and/or aid to the suffering humanities or for research centres and institutions for promotion of research and medical education".

On the occasion of the inauguration in 1992, His Holiness the Dalai Lama gave instructions and advice on how Dzogchen Rinpoche and Dzogchen Monastery could help the Tibetan refugees. In response, work so far has included construction of a home for the old, poor and sick; sponsorship and medical aid to the poor and needy; construction of village study and community halls; roads and bridges; donations and support to the hospital and school; and a students' scholarship program.

The work of the Charitable Society is undoubtedly of immense practical benefit to those in need. Dzogchen Rinpoche very much considers it his own spiritual practice, and also that of all those who contribute by way of time or money.
