Adapted from Bodhi Magazine, Issue 1, 1998 One summer night in 1997, Tenzin Namdak (Tenam-La), Ponlop Rinpoche's attendant, began to tell Rinpoche's students stories of The Dzogchen Ponlop Tulkus, which he had heard growing up as a young monk at Dzogchen Monastery in Tibet. We had no idea that these stories existed and were eager to find out more. Several months later, we were able to arrange an interview with Tenam-La to record several stories. In February 1998, Lingla Kuchen Rinpoche visited Boulder, Colorado. Until 1996, Lingla Rinpoche lived at Dzogchen Monastery in Tibet. This was Rinpoche's first visit to the United States. Bodhi met with Lingla Rinpoche, who graciously spoke to us about the oral history of The Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche Lineage. Bodhi would like to thank Sarah Harding for serving as Rinpoche's translator for this meeting. What follows, then, are two presentations of "Oral Lineage Histories." The first is an oral commentary by Lingla Rinpoche based on written historical records; the second is an oral history recounted by Tenam-La. Oral Commentary by Lingla Kuchen Rinpoche |
